Scientific Manager within Obesity and Nutritional Sciences

The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s (NNF) Obesity and Nutritional Sciences programme area is looking for a Scientific Manager with experience in overweight, obesity and nutritional disorders and more specific in e.g., how to prevent and manage overweight and obesity, precision management of obesity, weight loss as a tool to prevent other comorbidities, nutritional therapy as a novel innovative tool to manage both physical and mental  conditions and diseases.

The Obesity & Nutritional Sciences team, headed by SVP, Professor Arne Astrup, currently consists of seven highly qualified and passionate colleagues with diverse backgrounds. Our team leads the development of strategic initiatives and manage grants that support obesity and nutritional research and implementation both in Denmark and globally, mainly Denmark and Global North.

The Job

As Scientific Manager you will, together with colleagues in-house and key external partners, identify, evaluate, and co-develop excellent research projects to be granted by the Foundation. The focus areas are the understanding, prevention, and management of overweight and obesity and the link to obesity related diseases (mainly Global North); nutritional aspects of over- and malnutrition; and nutrition and weight control as a therapeutic tool to fight diseases and adverse health and mental conditions. You will build and manage a portfolio of projects, where you will support the grant holders during the entire lifetime of the projects to ensure the highest quality output and impact. The workplace is at the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s offices in Hellerup, Denmark. Travel and occasional meetings outside normal work hours must be expected.

Your tasks will initially include:

  • Manage specific funding calls within the Obesity & Nutritional Sciences programme area, incl. analysis and scoping of gaps and opportunities, development of call text material and guidance to applicants, and management of assessment panels and process.
  • Assist the team with overarching activities, such as supporting the continued development of the NNF 2030 strategy implementation, assessment of various grant applications within your area of expertise, identification of suitable peer reviewers, preparation of reports, documents, and other highly professional written and/or presentation material.
  • Contribute to the daily operation and implementation of specific strategic initiatives within the Obesity & Nutritional Sciences Programme area.
  • Manage a growing portfolio of grants and maintain a constructive dialogue with our partners.
  • Participate in project teams for the development of new initiatives.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and represent the Foundation and the Obesity and Nutritional Sciences team.

Professional and Personal Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a keeninterest in and research experience with obesity and nutritional sciences. Furthermore we expect that you have:

  • A PhD degree including obesity and/or nutritional sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience (post PhD) from academia, public institutions, hospitals or from the private sector.
  • Strong network (nationally and internationally) and comprehensive understanding of the nature and culture of science as well as the ecosystem of stakeholders
  • Ability to understand, analyse, manage, develop, and communicate research results, research projects, and research evaluations.
  • Experience with managing projects, project development and independently manage several complex projects simultaneously.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written. It will be a benefit, if the candidates can read and write Danish or another Scandinavian language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain good relationships.
  • Experience with applications for funding and budget handling is a plus, but not a requirement.
